Dear Sailors

This message is not something that we ever wanted to have to write, but it is something that we feel we no longer have any choice about as we feel that we need to take action to protect the standard of PWA events and the income of our riders.

Although we support anyone with the desire to promote windsurfing, top competitors competing at events of significantly lower levels severely damages the value of higher level contests, restricts the ability of the association to secure new events and threatens the future security of prize money and income for sailors at existing events.

The standards of prize money, competition management and sailor services, that the PWA demands, are dictated by you, the sailors. In order for us to continue to maintain those standards on your behalf, we need to have your support in doing so. Therefore, from now on, we will only continue to fight for those standards for sailors who are willing to support us in doing so.

To that end, any sailor in the top 10 of the PWA ranking, who chooses to compete at events of lower standards, will be considered to have withdrawn their support of the PWA and their entry applications to PWA events will no longer be accepted.

This is not a ruling that has been taken lightly, and not one that we are happy to have had to make, but the sailor and industry representatives of the PWA Management Board feel that we have no choice in order to protect the sponsorship income that we work so hard to bring in for you all. If that income is to survive and grow then this is a necessary move.

Sailors will not be penalised for taking part in events within in their home nation. If a sailor feels that they have particular reason to be granted exemption from this rule, then they may apply in writing to the PWA Management Board, but in general, exemptions will not be granted.

Best regards

The PWA Management Board:

Jimmy Diaz (Chairman and Sailor Representative)
Robby Swift (Sailor Representative)
John Skye (Sailor Representative)
Ross Williams (Sailor Representative)
Svein Rasmussen (Industry Representative)
Martin Brandner (Industry Representative)
Pieter Bijl (Industry Representative)
